Betty was baptized in August 2003 at Fairview Church of Christ Ramble Ln, in Austin, Travis County. She married Lee Roy Kensing on November 17, 1942 in El Paso, El Paso County, and they were married until Lee Roy's death on July 17, 2001 in Austin, Travis County. She had children Emmy JoAnn (Kensing) Cummings, Ima Maye (Kensing) Chase, and Ona Faye (Kensing) Shoemake. Betty Kensing died at age 78 years old on February 21, 2004 in Austin, Travis County, and was buried on February 24, 2004 at Live Oak Cemetery E White St, in Brady, McCulloch County.

    Betty was born and raised in Lohn, Texas. She spent all of her life in Lohn, Brady, and Austin, Texas. She left the state briefly when Lee Roy was in the Military during World War II, and stationed stateside. When Lee Roy shipped out to Europe, Betty came home with their oldest daughter, Emmy JoAnn, and stayed with her parents until the war ended and the troops sent home.

    BETTY KENSING OBITUARY Family-Placed Obituary Betty Lula Kensing of Austin went to be with our Heavenly Father on February 21, 2004, at the age of 78. Betty was born in Lohn, Texas, on May 29, 1925. Ms. Kensing was the last child of eight born to Charlie A. Latimer and wife, Tishie Huffman Latimer. She married Lee Roy William Kensing in El Paso on November 17, 1942. To this union three daughters, Emmy Jo Ann, and twins, Ima Maye and Ona Faye, were born. Although Ms. Kensing lived most of her life in Brady and Austin, she grew up in Lohn. She retired in May of 1987, after 13 years of service with the Texas Railroad Commission. Since her retirement, Betty spent her leisure time quilting, gardening and traveling to visit friends and relatives. She was baptized in Christ at the Pear Valley Church of Christ at about the age of nine and rededicated her life to Christ in August of 2003. She was a faithful member of the Fairview Church of Christ of Austin until her death. She is survived by her six children, Jo Ann and Darlis Cummings of Buda; Ima and Greg Chase of San Antonio, and Ona and Fred Shoemake of Buda; nine grandchildren, Shaun Shoemake of Buda, Charlotte Shoemake Frum of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Jeri and Bryan Mathisen of Corpus Christi, Michelle and Mark Wiley of San Antonio, Zane Cummings of San Angelo, and Marci and Ralph Medel of Kyle; and nine great- grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Robert Latimer and wife, Corine of San Antonio, two sisters, Mary Marshall of San Angelo and Emmy Ferguson and husband, Marion of Beaumont; numerous sisters-in-law, and brothers-in law; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Roy Kensing; her parents, Charlie and Tishie Latimer; two brothers, George and Kirby Latimer and two sisters, Donna Marsden and Marie Marshall. Betty was a devoted daughter, wife, grandmother, and great-grandmother. An unknown author wrote, ``Many people walk in and out of our lives. But it takes someone special to leave footprints on our hearts.' Always young at heart, Betty was extra special and will be dearly missed. A visitation will be held on Monday, February 23, 2004, from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m., at Cook-Walden Forest Oaks Funeral Home . Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2004, at 10:00 a.m., at Cook-Walden Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Liveoak Cemetery in Brady, Texas, at 3:00 p.m. Special thanks from the family go to Mike Self, a very special neighbor and friend; Dr. William Myers, Dr. Timothy Dziuk and the wonderful staff at South Austin Cancer Center, Dr. Declan Fleming, and the staff of Hospice-Austin, especially Pattie and True. Pallbearers for the service will be nephews, Herbert Seth Kensing, Kerry Kensing, Sam Jordan, Tracy Kensing, Dr. Tom Marsden, Wylie Marshall, Lee Roy Marsden, and Donald Williams. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fairview Church of Christ, Hospice-Austin or to a charity of your choice. Published by Austin American-Statesman on Feb. 23, 2004.
