In 1934, in the year that Bienvenido Guadalupe was born, on July 22nd, gangster John Dillinger was killed in Chicago. His gang had robbed banks and police stations, among other charges, and he was being hunted by J. Edgar Hoover, head of the FBI - although many in the public saw him as a "Robin Hood". A madam from a brothel in which he was hiding became an informer for the FBI and, after a shootout with FBI agents, Dillinger was shot and died.

In 1946, Bienvenido was just 12 years old when on July 4th, the Philippines gained independence from the United States. In 1964, Independence Day in the Philippines was moved from July 4th to June 12th at the insistence of nationalists and historians.

The Most Exciting 2 Minutes in Sports: The Kentucky Derby
On the first Saturday of every May we have a day of horse racing, mint juleps, wonderful and often extravagant hats, spectators singing “My Old Kentucky Home”, and the chance to win big money. Called "The Most Exciting Two Minutes In Sports" or "The Fastest Two Minutes in Sports" for the approximate time it takes to run the race, what isn't there to like about the Kentucky Derby?
