  • Introduction

    Professional Football Player. For five seasons (1949 to 1953), he played at the center and linebacker positions in the All-America Football Conference and National Football League with the New York Yankees, New York Yanks, Dallas Texans and Baltimore Colts. Born Bradford Sterling Ecklund, he attended Milwaukie High School in Oregon and served in the United States Marine Corps During World War II where he participated in boxing. Upon his return home he attended the University of Oregon, where he played collegiate football and was a member of the Ducks' squad that appeared in the Cotton Bowl game in 1949. During the course of his collegiate career, he achieved All-Pacific Coast Conference honors three-times and All-American recognition. He appeared in 60 career AAFC and NFL games, achieving Pro Bowl status two-times (1950 to 1951) and All-Pro recognition in 1953. Following his playing career, he coached at the high school level in Oregon and returned to the University of Oregon, where he served on their coaching staff. In 1960 he returned to the professional ranks serving as an assistant coach with the Dallas Cowboys, Atlanta Falcons, New Orleans Saints, Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bears. When his football career ended, he worked as a substitute teacher in New Jersey.
