On June 1 1892, Mabel married Joseph Francis Gill at St.Patrick's Cathedral in Melbourne. They had one child, Brian Francis Hicksch Gill, born 7 June 1894, who died the day before his first birthday, 6 June 1895. Brian is buried with his grandfather, Franz Robert Hicksch, and other family members in the Melbourne General Cemetery.
Joseph Francis Gill, along with his mother-in-law, Ella Mary Josephine Hicksch, was imprisoned in 1896 for allegedly burning down the Stieglitz Coffee Palace in Stieglitz, Victoria, He and Mabel divorced in 1905.
On 17 September 1907, Mabel married Peregrine Elliott Gloucester Cumberland in Melbourne.
They later travelled to England and in 1918 leased the Coombe Hill Golf Resort in Surrey, where they stayed until the death of Elliott Cumberland in 1933.
