    Brian Wilk, 20, of Chicago's Northwest Side died Thursday in Illinois Masonic Medical Center. Mr. Wilk was attending Wright College in Chicago. He had been a lifeguard at the Oak Street Beach for the last three years. He graduated from Lane Technical High School and was a member of its wrestling team, which won the city championship in 1990. When he was 12, he won a bronze medal in the National Jesse Owens Olympics in Los Angeles. He is survived by his parents, Ken and Roberta; his grandmothers, Margaret Wilk and Bernice Bowen; and a brother. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Mee & Ramme Funeral Home, 3918 W. Irving Park Rd., Chicago. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home. - Chicago Tribune May 1st, 1994.

In 1973, in the year that Brian K Wilk was born, in October, Vice President Spiro Agnew resigned - President Nixon nominated Gerald Ford for Vice President. Nixon's tax returns came under investigation. Nixon offered the recently discovered Oval Office tapes be heard by one person and summarized - his offer was rejected by the Special Prosecutor. Nixon ordered the Attorney General, then the assistant Attorney General, to fire the Special Prosecutor. Both refused and were fired. The Solicitor General became the acting Attorney General and fired the Special Prosecutor (the Saturday Night Massacre). Nixon releases some of the tapes, under extreme pressure because of the firings.

In 1980, by the time he was merely 7 years old, on April 24th, a rescue attempt was begun in the Iranian Hostage Crisis. The attempt failed and 8 US servicemen were killed. Eight helicopters had been sent for the mission, but only 5 arrived in operating condition., Since the military had advised that the mission be aborted if there were fewer than 6 helicopters, President Carter stopped it. Upon leaving, a helicopter collided with a transport plane and the men were killed.
