Introduction

After placing my half-brother (raised as Gary Everett Trautmann) up for adoption, his biological mother married and had two children with her husband, a son, Bruce, and a daughter I believe was named Evelyn. I've been told that Carol (nee O'Connor) also had another daughter that was also placed for adoption. I believe my source for that information to be reliable (Carol's brother, Brian Keith O'Connor), but I don't have any other information about siblings my brother Gary has through his biological mother. Surprisingly, my half-brother's "first" mother and my mother had been friends before Carol became involved with my father, and the friendship resumed after my parents divorced. I was quite small (perhaps three) but I have a fuzzy memory of playing with Bruce & Evelyn, never imagin-ing that we shared a sibling (and of course we were all far too young to have any comprehension of adult machinations -- I'm fast approaching my golden years and I still don't understand the complexities of relationships!) but none of us had any idea how to play cards back then; I just remember that we had a deck of cards and relying not on decades-old memories but assuming that when three small children and a deck of cards get together the result is always the same. The harried mother gets to play 52-card pickup . . . 49 . . . 50 . . where the heck is the rest of that deck? those darn kids!
