Add Memories, Stories & Photos about Bruno

I know very little about my Grandfather, which is why I am here; hoping others will know more. He was married to Eunice Beatrice Logan who was 11 years his junior. He lived in Islamorada, Florida until his death. He had two sons. The eldest Frank Pilinski and the youngest ?, who was killed in an automobile accident at a young age. These children were from a previous marriage in Germany. During WWI he jumped ship and swam to the United States. As the story goes, he was pressed into the German military by the Kaiser and jumped ship as soon as he got close enough to feel he could make it here. He subsequently went to work for the Navy, in what capacity I do not know. He married my Grandmother who also had two children from a previous marriage; Katherine E. (Mett) Pilinski, my mother and William Jennings Brian (Mett) Pilinski, my uncle. I did not find out until after his death that he was actually my step-grandfather. Before moving to Islamorada in his later years, my Grandfather and Grandmother lived in Jacksonville, Florida and at some point in time had a Chicken Ranch. Prior to the Great Depression and the Stock Market crash,my mother said they were wealthy and that at five years old, her weekly allowance was $5.00 which was an enormous amount in 1926. During the depression he lost everything except his home and five acres of land, which Grandma says he tilled with a stick in order to grow food for his family. Although prohibition was in full swing, he also made beer and root-beer in his basement in order not to starve. In 1955-56 we moved to Islamorada to stay with him for a year. During that time he worked for a man named "Cothran" (sp?) as a Contract painter. None of this information has been verified, but are simply the memories of a young girl and repeated stories related to her by family members.
