Carl Charles Schildroth was born on July 8, 1859 in Brant, Bruce County, ON Canada to Johann "George" Schildroth and Maria Margaretha "Mary Ann" Homeier, and had siblings George Christoph Schildroth, George Wilhelm "William" Schildroth, Johann Christoph Schildroth, and Mathilda Schildroth. He married Christena Eicholtd, and had children William Schildroth, Lewis Schildroth, Adela L. Schildroth, Charles Lewis Schildroth, Herbert Edward Schildroth, and John E. Schildroth. Carl Schildroth died at age 64 years old in 1923.

In 1859, in the year that Carl Charles Schildroth was born, on October 16th, abolitionist John Brown led a raid on Harpers Ferry Armory in Harper's Ferry, Virginia, in an attempt to start a slave rebellion. He wanted to "liberate" the guns in the armory and arm slaves. Brown was captured and hanged on December 2nd.

In 1865, at the age of just 6 years old, Carl was alive when on April 9th, Confederate Army General Robert E. Lee surrendered to the Union Army at Appomattox Court House. Lee's surrender led to a series of surrenders in the Confederacy and in 1866 President Johnson issued a "Proclamation—Declaring that Peace, Order, Tranquility, and Civil Authority Now Exists in and Throughout the Whole of the United States of America".
