Bismarck Tribune, The (ND) - Friday, January 12, 2007 Deceased Name: Carl Mikula Carl F. Mikula, 72, Mission, Texas, passed away Dec. 27, 2006, at Doctors Renaissance Hospital, Edinburg, Texas, near his home in Mission. It is with great sorrow that we announce his death. Carl was born July 14, 1934, in Fargo, to Carl J. and Frances (Davenport) Mikula. He was raised in Casselton and graduated from high school there in 1952. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and proudly served his country during the Korean War. Upon his return from military service, he attended Valley City State College, where he also participated in sports and was on the schools golf team. During this time he married Joan M. (Yunker) Mikula. They had four daughters and one son together. Upon his graduation, they moved to Amenia, where he taught, was the school's superintendent and coached basketball and football before the school's consolidation with Casselton. After moving his family to Casselton, he then dedicated the next 11 years teaching and coaching in the school system. He drove semi-truck for Super Valu in the summer months and in 1974, he became a full-time employee of Super Valu in Fargo. Carl was united in marriage to Vi (Viola) Honcik Wickenheiser on June 18, 1976, in Detroit Lakes, Minn. They made their home together on Lake Eunice, Audubon, Minn. After 25 years of service, Carl retired from Super Valu at which time he and Vi spent their winters at their Mission home and summers returning to Minnesota. Carl loved spending time with family and friends and sharing a good joke. He enjoyed many sports such as fishing and hunting, but will be remembered by most as a very avid golfer, participating in many golf matches and tournaments. He will be deeply mourned and never forgotten by his wife of 30 years, Vi; his daughters, Michelle (Mike) Tomlinson, Patricia (Randy) Moore, Sharron "Sam" (Dave) Carmell and Kathleen (Arlyn) Lomen; Vi's daughters and sons, Angie (Bill) Peters, Mark (Traci) Wickenheiser, David (Deb) Wickenheiser, Theresa (Jim) Wilson, Terry Wickenheiser and John (Carol) Wickenheiser; his brothers, Kenneth (JoAnn) Mikula and LeRoy (Diann) Mikula; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Monty Carl; and his father and mother. A celebration of life service was held Dec. 30, in Mission. There will also be a memorial service held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 2, 2007, at St. Francis Catholic Church, Lake Park, Minn. Burial will follow June 4, in Holy Cross Cemetery, Fargo.
