In 1926, in the year that Carmen Z Havilland was born, on November 15th, NBC was founded. It was the U.S.'s first major broadcast network. Ownership of the network was split between RCA (a majority partner at 50%), its founding corporate parent General Electric (which owned 30%), and Westinghouse (which owned the remaining 20%).

In 1936, Carmen was merely 10 years old when on November 3rd, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt was reelected to a second term. He ran against Republican Governor Alf Landon (Kansas), defeating Landon in the popular vote by 60.8% to 36.5%. Vermont and Maine were the only two states in which Landon won. John Nance Garner IV became the Vice-President in this election.

25 Photos of Native American History
These images provide us a glimpse into the Native American people and their way of life. Before European explorers arrived in North America, scholars believe that there were upwards of 50 million Native Americans living across all of the Americas. According to the U.S. Census Bureau there are 550 Federally recognized tribes, and only 4.5 million Native Americans remaining in the United States today. These proud people have a fascinating history that was almost completely lost. However, thanks to a handful of photographers we have these photos today to remember their way of life.
