    Carrobell “Carrie” Ann McWilliams grew up in Griffin, GA & attended the Young Ladies Seminary (Finishing) School. She married her cousin Andrew Elisha Hindsman in 1891. She was the mother of John Gordon, Samuel Felix, Ethel Suzanne, Iris Elizabeth, Dorothy “Dot”, infant Hindsman & Andrew Elijah Hindsman. Carrobell was close to her female McWilliams cousins as a young women in Griffin, GA. Her female cousins were daughters of her uncle Robert Patrick McWilliams. Each of the young McWilliams female cousins were often commented on as “beauties” in Spalding County newspaper articles. Photos are on file in the Office of Preservation in Griffin, GA.

    Carrobell & her family were members of the Methodist churches in both GA & MS.
  • Personal Life & Family

    Carrobell Ann McWilliams Hindsman was sent to live with her youngest daughter Iris (“Gis”) after the worst tornado in U.S. history dealt a great deal of damage and destruction to the center of Tupelo, MS (April 4-5, 1936). She remained living in Madison, TN with Iris & Ralph Summer until her death in 1958. She is buried in Tupelo with her husband & 2 young children Dorothy & Andrew who died as toddlers & one “infant” died at birth. Carrobell Ann was an accomplished pianist and played for her Methodist churches in both Griffin, GA & Tupelo, MS. Neighboring children in Tupelo reminisced in various newspaper articles about the beautiful music wafting thru the air when she played for herself. Carrobell’s father Samuel Brown McWilliams was uncle to husband A.E.; A.E.’s mother Susan M. McWilliams Hindsman was the daughter of Andrew Jackson McWilliams. A.J. & Samuel Brown McWilliams were brothers.
