In 1916, in the year that Catherine Wetzel was born, the U.S. National Park Service - part of the Department of the Interior - was created by an act of Congress in August. In 1931, Catherine was merely 15 years old when in March, “The Star Spangled Banner” officially became the national anthem by congressional resolution.
