Cathy had serious problems growing up. We all felt very sorry for her, but there really wasn't anything we could do. She was born that way. Certainly, we told people not to stare whenever we were with her and caught strangers transfixed. People can be incredibly rude, you know? Normal, seemingly polite and pleasant folks just couldn't help themselves.
Of course, if you were as beautiful as Cathy, they'd stare and gawk at you, too. It was not her fault. Never knew one guy who wasn't smitten in love with her instantly. Never knew one guy who took one look at her who didn't want to marry her right on the spot. All of them wanted to buy her jewelry, houses, cars, horses, yachts, countries, the moon.
As traumatic for her as these things were, they were child's play compared to what unfolded.
It will be nearly impossible to get this, but it is true. I am not exaggerating. You see, Cathy was nice to everyone. I know. I know, but, it's true. She was never a snob. She treated everyone with kindness. She goofed and had fun and hung out and you would swear she was normal (if you couldn't see her.) She was an excellent student. She was very athletic. She was given the role of a leader whatever she was doing. She dressed beautifully and
I happen to know for a fact that not only was she friends with all the popular kids, she was friends with others who were not popular; honestly? they were socially awkward. Didn't matter to her. She treated all of us the same.
What's worse? She's just the same today except she is even prettier and more caring.
