He married Elizabeth Rowlands Madden in 1914, and had children Cecil Walter Madden Jr., Alexander John Lloyd Madden, William George Madden, and Albert Herbert Madden. Cecil Madden died at age 84 years old on July 4, 1978 in Geelong.
