Chaje Goldschein 1903 - 1943

Chaje Goldschein was born on December 16, 1903 in Meszna Opacka, tarnowski County, Lesser Poland Voivodeship Polen to Leib Goldschein and Beila Neumann, and had siblings Regina Goldschein, Gisela Goldschein, and Isak Goldschein. They married Benjamin Maandag on October 21, 1931 in Den Haag, Den Haag County, Zuid-Holland Nederland, and they were married until Chaje's death on November 19, 1943. Chaje Goldschein had children Bella Rebecca Maandag and Leo Joseph Maandag.

In 1903, in the year that Chaje Goldschein was born, the first World Series of American baseball was played between October 1st and 13th. The Boston Americans of the American League played the Pittsburgh Pirates of the National League. Boston came back from a three game to one deficit, winning the final four games to capture the title - such a large comeback wouldn't be repeated by a team until 1925. (A total of eight games were played.)

In 1910, Chaje was only 7 years old when the Mann Act, also called the White-Slave Traffic Act, was signed into law. Its purpose was to make it a felony to engage in interstate or foreign commerce transport of "any woman or girl for the purpose of prostitution or debauchery, or for any other immoral purpose". But the language was so broad that it was also applied to consensual sex between adults when wished.
