    Charles was born in 1912 in Pennsylvania. By 1920 he had moved to California. He completed 4 years of highschool. In 1940 I know that he was a freight clerk for the steam railroad and was living on Armadale Ave in Los Angelas with his parents per the census. In 1943 he married Mary Huff. He passed away in 1997 in Hermet, California.

In 1912, in the year that Charles B Stockstill Jr. was born, Arizona was admitted to the United States in February (on Valentine's Day). It became the 48th state in the Union. Previously a Spanish - then Mexican - territory, the U.S. paid $15 million dollars for the area in 1848. Arizona was the last of the contiguous states to be admitted to the United States.

In 1934, Charles was 22 years old when on July 22nd, gangster John Dillinger was killed in Chicago. His gang had robbed banks and police stations, among other charges, and he was being hunted by J. Edgar Hoover, head of the FBI - although many in the public saw him as a "Robin Hood". A madam from a brothel in which he was hiding became an informer for the FBI and, after a shootout with FBI agents, Dillinger was shot and died.
