Charles Drugg 1876 - 1961

Charles John Drugg was born on July 5, 1876 in Forest City, Iowa United States to Andrew Drugg and Marie Louise (Eriksdotter) Drugg, and had siblings Gustave Drugg, Ida Drugg Johnson, and Ann M. (Drugg) Anderson. He married Mary Ann "Mame" (McGuire) Drugg in 1914, and had children Marie Louise (Drugg) Levad, Margeret Drugg Brighton, Eileen Delores (Drugg) Meyer, and John Drugg. Charles Drugg died at age 84 years old on March 1, 1961 in Forest City, Winnebago County, and was buried in 1961 at Saint James Catholic Cemetery in Forest City, IA.

In 1876, in the year that Charles Drugg was born, on February 14th, Alexander Graham Bell applied for a patent for the telephone. So did Elisha Gray. A month later, on March 7th, Bell was granted the patent and on the 10th, he made his first successful telephone call - in which he said: "Mr. Watson, come here, I want to see you."

In 1914, at the age of 38 years old, Charles was alive when in only his second big-screen appearance, Charlie Chaplin played the Little Tramp, his most famous character. The silent film was made in January and released the following year. Of the character, Chaplin said: "On the way to the wardrobe I thought I would dress in baggy pants, big shoes, a cane and a derby hat. I wanted everything a contradiction: the pants baggy, the coat tight, the hat small and the shoes large." The moustache was added to age his 24-year-old face without masking his expressions.
