He married Amy Elizabeth Mary (Bayley) Richards in 1908, and had children Charles Alfred Richards, Amy Ethel Richards, Hilda Mary Richards, Arnold James Richards, Cyril Richards, and Elsie Louise Richards. Charles Richards died at age 62 years old on July 7, 1938 in Leopold, Greater Geelong City County.
