(Meeker) Stone, Mary J. Meeker, and Daniel F. Meeker. Charles Meeker married Mary E. Meeker in 1864, and died at age 64 years old on July 9, 1902 in Montrose, Susquehanna County,, PA.

    SUSQUEHANNA NEWS F. C. Meeker, aged 62 years, for many years a prominent citizen of this borough, died at the home of C. W. Broadhead, on Cherry street, last Wednesday afternoon. He had been an invalid for years. His funeral services will be held this afternoon at 5 o'clock. Interment will be made tomorrow in the McCune [McKune] cemetery, near Susquehanna. ---- THE SCRANTON REPUBLICAN, Scranton, PA Wednesday, Jul. 16, 1902, pg. 8: "The remains of the late Charles F. Meeker of Montrose, but formerly and for many years of Oakland, were on Saturday interred in McKune cemetery." ---- It is possible Charles F. Meeker was born in the state of Connecticut. He married in 1864 to Mary E. Meeker (born Feb 1842 in PA). They were married 36 years, birth of 5 children of which 2 were living during the 1900 census. Charles father was born in Connecticut and mother in Vermont. From military records it is known that he served in the Civil War, Union side, Company H of the 25th Regiment, New York Infantry. For the duration of his enlistment he was a "Private" At 21 years of age, Charles enlisted May 15,1861 at New York city to serve two years. He mustered in as private, Co. H , June 26, 1861; mustered out with company, July 10, 1863, at New York City. The 25th regiment was organized in New York City, New York on May 10, 1861 and was mustered in for a two year enlistment on June 28, 1861. The regiment was mustered out of service on June 26, 1863, and those men who had signed three year enlistments were transferred to the 44th New York. The 25th regiment suffered 7 officers and 54 enlisted men who were killed in action or mortally wounded and 4 officers and 25 enlisted men who died of disease, for a total of 90 fatalities. Charles, fortunately was not one of these fatalities. Charles internment was in the McKune Cemetery, Oakland Township, Susquehanna County, PA, USA. The grave location is Lot # 6, Range 4, Grave #1. Charles may or may not have had a headstone.

Patented by Morse in 1837, the electrical telegraph used a code developed by him and his assistant, Samuel Vail, and sent a message two miles. In 1844, Morse broadcast from Washington DC to Baltimore Maryland the message "What hath God wrought" and the telegraph took off.
