Chales was born to an old Massachusetts family in 1844. He moved to Delaware, Ohio in 1870 where he set up a studio and continued to work until his death on September 7, 1915. Charles' daughter continued the business after his death.
Charles Bodurtha was a sketch artist as well as a photographer. He spent 2 years during the Civil War working in Venezuela as a photographer. He then went on to work as a sketch artist on an English man-o-war for 16 months.
Charles Bodurtha was first a partner to Theron A. Beach, a Delaware photographer, but later become sole owner of the studio.
Charles married Amy Simmons.
