Charles Lawrence Mitting was born on March 10, 1895 in Mildura, Mildura Rural City County, VIC Australia to William Mitting and Ellen (Bromley) Mitting, and had siblings William Thomas "Harold" Mitting and Sidney Roy Mitting. He married Ethel May (Dadswell) Mitting, and had children Elsie Mavis Mitting, Ellen Ethel Mitting, William Alfred Mitting, and Desmond Charles Mitting. Charles Mitting died at age 34 years old on July 28, 1929 in Merbein.

  • Introduction

    Enlisted 8th April 1916. Trained at Bendigo and Broadmeadows Camps, from 25th April to 10th June 1916. Sailed to England from Melbourne on 28th July 1916 on Troop Transport Ship Themistocles. Sent to France from England on 8th October 1916. Taken prisoner at Bullecourt by German soldiers when surrounded and out of ammunition 11th April 1917. Sent to Friedrichsfeld and Lindberg POW camp, Germany. Repatriated back to England 17th December 1918, sent to Fulham Military Hospital, transferred to 1st Aux hospital Harefield with ( Debility ).
