  • Introduction

    Based on when photography was invented, Charles is a rarity, having been born before 1800 before immigrating to America. A surviving photo of him taken when he was in his 60s shows him with a stocky physique and, while he did pose for the character, he did have many of the same characteristics of the political cartoon character, John Bull, that represents the country of England, Charles wed about 185 in England to Mary James and had 10 children.
