    Mum told me that after the bigamist that she married was revealed, that she took up with a tinker for a short time. They spent a summer travelling through England and sleeping in haystacks. She said she had Steve by him and was living with him in a small flat (in Leeds?). But he had a problem with alcohol. He came home one night drunk and threw the cradle across the room with the baby in it. Mum left him the next day and went to her grandmother who took her in. (Penelope Swales)
