Chris Petrovich was my grandfather, and father to Dorothea(Dorothy) Strow and Irene Dunne. Dorothea had one daughter, Anna Arnette and Irene had two daughters, Francine and Kim. Chris was married to Frances Gozdziewska. He and my grandmother Frances resided in Bayonne (Hudson County), New Jersey on W. 22nd Street where they had lived and raised both their daughters Dorothea and Irene until their passing. Chris immigrated to the U.S. from Austria and served in the U.S. Armed Services WWI although he was not yet able to speak the English language relatively fluently, but with a very heavy Polish accent. His daughter Itene Dunne married William (Billy) Dunne and remained in Bayonne, NJ until her passing in 2020. She raised both of her daughters, Francine and Kim in Bayonne, neither married and both were teachers in Bayonne and Hoboken respectively. His daughter Dorothea(Dorothy) married Solomon Strow an immigrant of Russia who served in WWII. They met whilst Dorothy was vacationing in Miami Beach, Florida and later married and remained in Miami, Florida. Solomon owned a flourishing and successful furniture manufacturing business Rattan and Bamboo Shops with 4 locations in Florida and a manufacturing plant in Miami. He was the first to bring raw Rattan and Bamboo into the U.S. and manufacture Rattan and Bamboo furniture in the U.S. They had a daughter, Anna Arnette in 1952. The family remained in Miami, Florida until Solomon's passing in 1997. Dorothy then moved to Athens, GA to reside close to her daughter Ann. She later returned to Palm Beach, Florida residing in a condominium. Her daughter Ann had also returned to Florida and resided in Hollywood, Florida to be close to her mother. Dorothy passed away in April 2006. At which time her daughter and husband James Ogden returned to Athens, GA where they presently reside.

Did you know?
In 1892, in the year that Chris Petrovich was born, on October 12th, the "Pledge of Allegiance" was first recited in unison by students in U.S. public schools. Composed the previous August by Francis Bellamy, it was to be recited in 15 seconds and originally read: "I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." "Under God" was added in the 1950's.
Did you know?
In 1912, he was 20 years old when the RMS Titanic sank in April. The RMS Titanic was a British built and run passenger liner that was billed as "unsinkable." On its maiden voyage from Southampton England to New York City, carrying about 2,224 passengers and crew - from the wealthiest people in the world to poor emigrants from Europe, the Titanic hit an iceberg. Five of her watertight compartments failed but she was designed to survive only 4 being flooded. She began to sink. There were only enough lifeboats for about half of the passengers so over 1,000 remained behind while "women and children first" were loaded. Over 1500 died, making it the largest maritime disaster in modern history.
