Christina Doris (Stokes) Steward of Port Fairy, Moyne Shire County, VIC Australia was born in 1907 in Warrnambool to Louisa (Wilson) Stokes and Henry Stokes. She had a sister Eileen Frances Stokes. Christina Steward married James Edward Wallace Steward in 1940, and died at age 98 years old on September 11, 2006 in Port Fairy.

Two fortuitous events occurred - photography had been invented since the last time the comet had passed and the comet was relatively close. There was panic because one astronomer claimed that the gas from its tail "would impregnate the atmosphere and possibly snuff out all life on the planet." People bought gas masks, "anti-comet pills" and "anti-comet umbrellas".
