Chiara Sartori Gregory-DePaula was my beloved Grandmother and Godmother. Born in Piacenza Italy, she traveled to Ellis Island at 19 years old. She settled in Brooklyn, NY where she worked as a seamstress in a Brooklyn factory. She met and married my Grandfather, Anthony Gregory. They had two sons, Thomas Louis Gregory, (my father) and Louis Thomas Gregory (my uncle). They live in East New York section of Brooklyn. Chiara (Clara-Americanized name) and Tony moved to Cambria Heights Queens, NY after their sons were grown. Anthony Gregory died in 1960. Clara remarried years later to Jerry DePaula. They were introduced by Jerry's relative, who was Clara's friend. They moved to North Bellmore NY to be near children Tom and Lou, and grandchildren. Grandma Clara died at home on January 31, 1975, found early morning in the bathroom already deceased by her husband, Jerry
DePaula. Clara left behind two sons, two daughters-in-law, and 16 grandchildren. I remember the day like it was yesterday and still feel the heartbreak to this day, 45 years later. R.I.P. Grandma...Love, Frances
