    Clara was my aunt my mother was her sister Elizabeth twerwilliger mccloud my name is Rochelle mccloud Miranda aunt Clara had a half sister Jane McKay and some brothers also as far as I know the terwilligers were from Salisbury mills new York. I believe aunt Clara had three children gayle Ronnie and butch Ronnie I know still lives in the family home on yeomans r in Newburgh ny

In 1913, in the year that Clara M Degroat was born, Henry Ford installed the first moving assembly line for the mass production of an entire automobile. It had previously taken 12 hours to assemble a whole vehicle - now it took only two hours and 30 minutes! Inspired by the production lines at flour mills, breweries, canneries and industrial bakeries, along with the disassembly of animal carcasses in Chicago’s meat-packing plants, Ford created moving belts for parts and the assembly line was born.

In 1947, at the age of 34 years old, Clara was alive when on April 15th, Jackie Robinson joined the Brooklyn Dodgers, playing first base. He was the first black man to play in the Major Leagues. Since the 1880's, professional baseball had been segregated and blacks played in the "Negro leagues". He went on to play for 10 years.
