Add Memories, Stories & Photos about Clara

When I was a little girl, I would go to my Aunt Clara's house after church and spent the day with her. She would give me a garden tool, to remove dandelions from her lawn and back garden. I spent many hours happily doing this task. I remember how she detested neighbours cats coming into the back yard and would keep a glass of water on the back steps railing to douse the offending cat that would stray into her yard. However, when my family uprooted from Long Island to move to Florida, she inherited our family cat, Sidney. How she spoiled him! We couldn't believe, she actually cooked dinner for him!! After Sid passed away, she went and adopted another cat, Timothy. I always knew she was a softie for cats. I didn't realise it at the time, but Clara was, unbeknownst to her and myself, a feminist. I suppose, her independence rubbed off on me. I was so saddened wehn she passed away. When the time came to sort out her estate, family members divided up her possessions. I was fortunate enough to get a box of her recipes. Things of monetary value went to other family members but that was ok, because I got so much more. I got the best memories of one of the most amazing women and all the money in the world couldn't buy that! My time with her, helped prepare me for what would lie ahead in my own life. Thank you Clara.
