He had siblings Jane Elizabeth (Lawless) Lamb, Rose Lawless Dickie, Violet Ellen Lawless, Daisy Alice Lawless, Olive Leila (Lawless) Moyle, Lily Madeline Lawless, William Egbert Lawless, and John David Lawless. He married Elizabeth Ellen Beatrice Mellington in 1915, and had children William Elvin Lawless and Helen Jean Lawless. Clarence Lawless died at age 66 years old in 1950 in Geelong.

In 1884, in the year that Clarence James Lawless was born, on August 5th, the cornerstone for the base of the Statue of Liberty - a gift from the people of France - was laid. 120,000 people - most donations were $1 - donated to the completion of the base.
