Born in Mammola, Italy, on July 12, 1939, Claudio worked as a self-employed tailor, and was a member of Rearinates, a group of poets that have had their work published. He was a very smart man he knew right away when his daughter in law was pregnant. Later in life he immigrated to the USA. He eventually got diagnosed with cancer in his ear. One day when his son Kevin Calla was on a military trip, he shot himself due to not wanting to deal with the cancer.

Claudio J. Calla, 70, of Harrisburg, PA, passed away on Friday, March 5, 2010. Born in Mammola, Italy, on July 12, 1939, Claudio worked as a self-employed tailor, and was a member of Rearinates, a group of poets that have had their work published. He will be sadly missed by his loving family and friends. Claudio is survived by a son, Kevin Calla of Reading, PA; a grandson, Luke Calla of Reading, PA; a brother, Vincent Calla of Mammola, Italy; and a sister, Elizabeth Calla of Mammola, Italy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Salvatore and Immaculata Calla. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 14, 2010 at 2:00 PM, at the Hetrick-Bitner Funeral Home, 3125 Walnut St. Harrisburg, PA. 17109. Most Reverend Michael Scalzi, will serve as officiate.
