While a young man in Iowa, Clemma Raney invented several farm machines, among them a hay baler that caught the attention of Cyrus McCormick. McCormick went to see the baler in operation in the field and consequently brought Raney to International Harvester in Chicago. Raney is one name of three on the patent for the McCormick Farmall tractor, introduced in 1924. Most of his 113 patents are inventions for farm machinery, but Raney also invented the phonograph record-handling magazine [United States Patent 2029191] that is the basis of automatic jukebox record changers.
