He was in a relationship with Minnie Lee (Eversole) Sharpe, and had children Richard L Sharpe, Don Sharpe, Robert Sharpe, Julia Mae (Sharpe) McClintoch, John S Sharpe, Peggy (Sharpe) Cophenhaver, and Ricky M. Sharpe. Clifford Sharpe died at age 75 years old on August 4, 1983.

Introduction

Grandpa Sharpe died from brain cancer. As I remember him, he was fun-loving, kind, loved to dance (with me and "Dueling Banjos"). A little before he passed away, he got up even though very tired and weak, dance with me for the last time. He would always give me a silver dollar when we went to see him in Rural Retreat. I loved to sit with him in that old gray leather recliner. He loved to go to Maybry Mill to eat buckwheat pancakes. The day we found out about his brain tumor, we were eating at a restaurant in Hillsville that had an all-you-can-eat salad bar. He ate so many peaches that day. He would go to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatments during the week and stay in the hospital. We would go and pick him up and take him home to Rural Retreat each Friday while he was taking his treatments. I loved Grandpa, he was my hero. Though he was my step-grandfather, I never knew it because he loved his grandchildren. I know my cousins Sherrie Sharpe, the one I knew best, had a lot of stories she could tell. Grandpa let us say he liked to tell perverted jokes, he could light up a room with laughter even though I was too young to know what he was talking about. His last job was as a nightguard. I don't remember much about Grandma Minnie because she died early in my life. Grandpa loved her and grieved over her death I suppose until his death. He did have a girlfriend after Grandma died name, Ruby Holbrook. they never married, only dated. After they started dating, he moved to the apartment upstairs over her house even though he owed his house and some others. He said he was there to protect her because she was scared at night and felt better that someone was living upstairs. Richard is my dad, and the siblings that I can remember are Don, Robert, Julia-Mae, Richard, Johnny, Peggy, and Ricky. There was a baby name was Jerry that passed away as an infant.
