He married Edith Irene (Sprouse) Rister, and they were married until Clifford's death on June 24, 1995. Clifford Rister had children James Clifford Rister, Michael Rister, Danny Rister, Sandy Kay (Rister) Patton, and Ray Rister.

Clifford Rister attended the church across from his home on st rt 93. Called mt olive church. He also preached there and other surrounding area churches.
