He had siblings Eugenie Millie Lee Silvester, Clive Ellis Silvester, Beryl Eda Lee Silvester, Wynefred Lee Silvester, Beryl Edalee Silvester, Thomas Eric Silvester, and Grenville Archer Silvester. Clive Silvester died at age 74 years old in 1962 in Toor.

In 1888, in the year that Clive Ellis Silvester was born, on July 25th, a court stenographer from Salt Lake City - Frank Edward McGurrin - decisively beat the competition in a typing contest in Ohio. He was supposedly the only person who used touch typing and is believed to have invented the method. Touch typing is ubiquitous now - but Frank's win is what convinced everyone that the method was good!

In 1899, Clive was just 11 years old when on February 14th, the first voting machines were approved by Congress for use in federal elections. Several states were already using voting machines in their elections and the Federal government was finally convinced of their safety and accuracy.
