Milking!
I don’t know why but I thought of Craig this evening. I think my stepdad Mac and Craig were cousins. When I was a teenager maybe 14 I spent about a month or so maybe longer staying with Craig,Allison and his son Alva. I worked on the farm with him milking at 4 am breakfast, back to the field baling hay me throwing the bales onto the trailer and to me an old man stacking the bales, back to the house for dinner and then back to milk again. My main job was to shovel the cows poop down to the end of the slot, trench can’t remember what we called it and then onto a trailer to fertilize the fields. Meter was there to strip the cows. He was a quiet good natured man with forearms like Popeye. He showed me how to strip the cows. Craig was a tall man with a generous smile and nature. I’m 80 years old and can still hear his voice and see that smile. He showed me what a good days work was and I think Ed he liked the way I worked. I really enjoyed staying with him and his family. Church on Sunday , baseball and bar b que afterwards. It was a good summer. I can’t say enough good things about Craig and his family. Made quite an impression on a youngster. You want good fresh food Allison was amazing her vegetable soup was to die for. Great family!
