Crystal Eastman Benedict Suffagist, Lawyer, Feminist
Crystal Eastman (Benedict) was a suffagist, lawyer, feminist, journalist, antimilitarist, and socialist in the early 20th century. Does that sound like a lot? Between 1910 and 1920, many women were involved in politics and social movements. They were outspoken advocates of women's issues, peace, and social justice. Crystal Eastman was one of these women. One of her many achievements was to found the Woman's Peace Party during World War 1. This organization was renamed the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom in 1921 and is still in existence - the oldest women's peace group.
