Playing Golf
Curtis's son, Curtis Ellery, and his grandson (me) thoroughly enjoyed the rounds of golf they were able to play with together. Geography -- and life's many obligations in general -- prevented them from playing together as a group as much as they'd have liked to.
I was lucky enough to play a round with my grandfather in May 1998. We played at his home course in Sun City. It was the last round we played together. That day, my grandfather bought me a great sand wedge which I still use to this day. He also gave me (much needed) advice on playing from sand traps, advice I still recall and use. In fact, I got my very first "eagle" with the sand wedge that he bought me. We both struck the ball well that day, making the round that much more enjoyable!
It was a memorable day that ended with a meal at the club's restaurant. The only thing better than the food was the conversation. It was the last time that I would ever see my grandfather.
Years later, my dad gave me what may be my most valuable possession ... the first set of golf clubs that my grandfather bought for him. My grandfather was always good to his grandchildren.
