In 1916, in the year that Cynthia Delores Piggott was born, the U.S. National Park Service - part of the Department of the Interior - was created by an act of Congress in August. In 1921, the silent film The Sheik, directed by George Melford and starring Rudolph Valentino and Agnes Ayres (also featuring Adolphe Menjou) debuted on October 21st. And Rudolph Valentino, an Italian American, became the heartthrob of a female generation.
