    Dajad served Armenia in World War I. After the War, he worked for Near East Relief. While visiting an orphanage in that capacity, he met his future wife Arpine Amirkhanian. When they were married, they learned that the Bolsheviks had blacklisted them. They were able to escape to America settling in Massachusetts and later New Hampshire and New Jersey.
  • Professional Career

    Dajad was a freedom fighter and national hero in Armenia. While still a teenager, Dajad silenced a traitor who was giving secrets to the enemy of how the Armenians planned to defend themselves against the turks who were massacring Armenians. Because of his education in agriculture, Dajad was able to support his family during the Depression by running a farm.

In 1888, in the year that Dajad Terlemezian was born, on July 25th, a court stenographer from Salt Lake City - Frank Edward McGurrin - decisively beat the competition in a typing contest in Ohio. He was supposedly the only person who used touch typing and is believed to have invented the method. Touch typing is ubiquitous now - but Frank's win is what convinced everyone that the method was good!

In 1900, by the time he was merely 12 years old, the U.S. helped put down Boxer Rebellion. The Boxer Rebellion took place in China, where the presence of "outsiders" (foreigners) was resented. The United States, along with Austria-Hungary, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, and Russia, had business interests in China and these countries all sent troops to put down the Rebellion and keep China open to their presence and to Christian missionaries.
