He was born and raised in Summit Hill, Carbon, Pennsylvania. On December 9, 1940 he married Jeanne Elizabeth Cadden (1925–1992) in Carbon County, Pennsylvania, USA. They had three children including Jeanne Elizabeth Kane (1926-2010). He was also married to Dorothy "Dotty" Louise Cadden (1932-2005) and they had a son together. Daniel served in the US Army from June 28, 1945 until his discharge on October 14, 1945.

She married Alexander on January 28, 1909 in Carbon, PA and they raised their family in Summit Hill, Carbon, Pennsylvania. She passed away on August 26, 1948 in Coaldale, Schuylkill, Pennsylvania, USA.
