Posted October 16, 2022 PORTLAND – Daniel Joseph Marshall, 67, died peacefully on Oct. 7, 2022, following a long period of declining health. The youngest of three children, Danny was born on March 19, 1955 to Margaret Honan Marshall and John Gregory Marshall. Danny’s youth was shaped by summers at Higgins Beach and playing sports with neighborhood friends. He grew up in Portland, attended local schools, and graduated from Cheverus High School in 1973 where he played football and basketball. Following a year at Worcester Academy, Danny enrolled at Fairfield University, graduating in 1978. In February of 1983 Danny married Lucy deGolian, of Atlanta, Ga. The couple settled in Portland and raised four children. Their house was filled with laughter and colorful stories with characters often invented by Daniel to make his children smile. Danny began his professional life at Sebago, Inc. as a leather buyer for that shoe manufacturing company. He was liked and respected by the people with whom he worked. Subsequently, he worked as a consultant for Salz, Inc. of California. He was a member of the Portland Country Club and the Cumberland Club for many years. He was an avid skier and golfer, enjoying the slopes in Jackson, N.H. and playing golf at the Portland Country Club with his sons, his brother John, and many close friends. He was an incredibly loyal friend and family member and enjoyed nothing more than gathering both at his homes in Jackson, N.H. and Portland. His wit, warmth, and uncommonly gentle spirit will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his friends and family. He is survived by his former wife, Lucy, of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Ann Concannon and her husband, John, of Portland, and Lucy Dobratz and her husband, Ryan, of Austin, Texas, and two sons, John and his wife, Diana, of Chicago, Ill., and George and his wife, Laura, of Austin, Texas. He is also survived by three grandsons, Mack Concannon, Henry Marshall and George Marshall, Jr.; as well as many nieces and nephews; a brother, John G. Marshall, Jr. and his wife, Susie, of Cumberland Foreside, and a sister, Mary Marshall Piper and her husband, Jon, of Falmouth. The family would like to thank Regina Morgan, his longtime caregiver, and the staff at Falmouth by the Sea for their kind and compassionate care. Services will be private at a later date.
