  • Introduction

My name is David John mulholland and I was named after my uncle, who ran away at 16 years old and joined the AIF at Darlinghurst barracks Oxford street Sydney under aged.He was born June 17 1927 Not 1921,as listed on his enlistment papers he was born in Portland Victoria Not Portland nsw and that was the reason he enlisted in Sydney and not Melbourne because he was under aged he simply erased the top of the 7 off 1927 to make it look a 1 as in 1921 which is why his enlistment paper shows 1921 I have his birth certificate which states 1927.The death of my uncle David of cholera building the Thai Burma railway destroyed my family The japs fed him black bread and he escaped into the jungle where he died I do have a photograph of him.He died at 18 years of age.Not 22

Did you know?
In 1927, in the year that David Compton Mulholland was born, the first "talkie" (a movie with music, songs, and talking), The Jazz Singer, was released. Al Jolson starred as a cantor's son who instead of following in his father's footsteps as expected, becomes a singer of popular songs. Banished by his father, they reconcile on his father's deathbed. It was a tear-jerker and audiences went wild - especially when they heard the songs. Thus begun the demise of silent films and the rise of "talkies".
Did you know?
In 1930, by the time he was just 3 years old, on August 6th, N.Y. Supreme Court Judge Joseph Crater went through papers in his office, destroyed some of them, withdrew all his money from the bank - $5,150, sold his stock, met friends at a restaurant for dinner and disappeared after getting into a taxi (or walking down the street - his friends' testimony later changed). His disappearance was reported to the police on September 3rd - almost a month later. His wife didn't know what happened, his fellow Justices had no idea, and his mistresses (he had several) said that they didn't know. While his disappearance was front page news, his fate was never discovered and after 40 years the case was closed, still without knowing if Crater was dead or alive.
