In 1830, in the year that David Condie was born, on March 26th, The Book of Mormon was published in Palmyra, New York by Joseph Smith, Jr. The full title was "The Book of Mormon: An Account Written by the Hand of Mormon upon Plates Taken from the Plates of Nephi". According to Smith, the angel Moroni appeared to him when he was 17 and told him where to find golden tablets that told the story of a people who migrated from Jerusalem to the Americas. He transcribed the tablets, which became the Book of Mormon.

In 1873, at the age of 43 years old, David was alive when on May 27th, German archaeologist and businessman Heinrich Schliemann found what he said was "Priam's Treasure" - confirming the existence of ancient Troy. The find in Hissarlik Turkey is still disputed as being a part of Troy.
