David Goss 1840 - 1940

David Goss was born in March 1840 at Caldecot, in Hertfordshire County, England United Kingdom to William Goss and Letitia (Ingrey) Goss. He was in a relationship with Sophia (Trinnick) Goss, and had children Elizabeth Jane (Goss) Driver and Herbert Henry Goss. David Goss died at age 100 years old on April 30, 1940 in Box Hill, Whitehorse City County, VIC Australia, and was buried at Burwood Cemetery Gilmour St, in Burwood.

    The Argus, Melbourne. 2nd May 1940. DEATH IN 101st YEAR. - MR. DAVID GOSS. Mr. David Goss, who celebrated his 100th birthday in March, died at Box Hill on Tuesday. Except for the last few days of his colourful life, Mr. Goss had never been ill. When aged 14, Mr. Goss left his native village of Caldecot, Hertfordshire, England, and after a 100- day voyage on the "Cairngorm," landed at Port Fairy, where he did farm work, founding a butchering business in Melbourne. During the gold rush he made an unsuccessful venture to the Beechworth digging, and later he opened businesses in Richmond and Kew, making a fortune which he later lost in the land boom. He lived for many years in Warrnambool before retiring in 1914. Married twice, Mr. Goss is survived by four daughter's and several great-great grandchildren. September 1855. The "Cairngorm," Portland, Victoria. Of the 372 immigrants, 172 disembarked from the Cairngorm and sailed to Port Fairy on the steamer Champion.
