    Isadore "David I" Dym was born on July 4, 1914 in Brooklyn, Kings, New York, United States to parents Rubin and Rachel Dym. He had siblings Eva, Frank, and Harold Dym and they grew up in Queens New York. David worked as a statistical clerk and compiler for "Life Insurance" in Brooklyn, NY. He served with the 3rd Army Corp of Engineers in the European theatre. David met his future bride, Bernice Fonarow Dym (1918–1999), at a USO dance, in New York, immediately after WWII ended. After being honorably discharged, he married her on April 25, 1946 in Washington DC and moved with Bernice to her hometown of San Antonio, where he became a Texan for life. The couple went on to have two children together, Sherry (Dym) Callahan and Randy Dym.

    David Isaac Dym, age 92, passed away March 2, 2007. He was born July 4, 1914, in Brooklyn, New York, to Rachel and Rudolph Dym. He bravely served with the 3rd Army Corp of Engineers in the European theatre. David met his future bride, Bernice Fonarow, at a USO dance, in New York, immediately after WWII ended. After being honorably discharged, he married and moved with Bernice to her hometown of San Antonio, where he became a Texan for life. David was known as a quiet, loving, hard working family man. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Bernice; his parents; brothers, Frank and Harry; and sister, Eva Schanzer. David is survived by his daughter, Sherry Callahan and husband, Bill; his son, Randy Dym and wife, Suzanne all of San Antonio; grandchildren, Andrew Knieberg of Austin, Justin and Joanna Knieberg of Denton, David A. Dym of Austin, Kevin and Dana Dym of Dallas, Joshua Dym of San Antonio, and Aubrey Dym of Tucson, AZ; great-grandson, Joseph Knieberg. A private graveside ceremony was held for family members. The family thanks Vitas Hospice services for their wonderful care and kindness to Dad. The family asks that, in memory of David, donations may be made to the Vitas Hospice Charitable Fund at 5430 Fredericksburg Rd., Ste. 200, San Antonio, Texas 78229. Arrangements with Porter Loring Mortuary North.

In 1914, in the year that David Isaac Dym was born, in only his second big-screen appearance, Charlie Chaplin played the Little Tramp, his most famous character. The silent film was made in January and released the following year. Of the character, Chaplin said: "On the way to the wardrobe I thought I would dress in baggy pants, big shoes, a cane and a derby hat. I wanted everything a contradiction: the pants baggy, the coat tight, the hat small and the shoes large." The moustache was added to age his 24-year-old face without masking his expressions.

In 1967, at the age of 53 years old, David was alive when on November 7th, President Johnson signed legislation passed by Congress that created the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), which would later become PBS and NPR. The legislation required CPB to operate with a "strict adherence to objectivity and balance in all programs or series of programs of a controversial nature".
