He married Gail Carol Curlett circa 1969 in Willow Grove, Montgomery County, PA and they later divorced circa 1999 in Oreland. They had children Tracey Ann Joy, Kelly Ann Johnson, and Shannon Ann Howard. He also married Debra Lynn Curlett circa 2001 in Willow Grove, Montgomery County, and they were married until David's death on September 14, 2006 in Oreland.
