He was married to Wanda June (McDonald) Kemp, and had children David Earl Kemp, Karen Gail (Kemp) Schmatz, Bruce Elton Kemp, and Coy Dean Kemp. David Kemp died at age 82 years old on May 25, 2005.

    David L. Kemp BORN: June 12, 1922 DIED: May 28, 2005 LOCATION: Crescent Mills, California Crescent Mills longtime Fire Chief, David "Levi" Kemp, age 82, peacefully passed from this life to join his wife with the Lord, Saturday evening, May 28th, 2005 at Plumas-Sierra Nursing and Rehabilitation located in Quincy, CA. Levi was born the second of six children, to the late Joseph and Maude Kemp on June 12th, 1922 in London, Arkansas where he was also raised and educated. He is a 1940 graduate of London High School. Levi worked for a period of time as a delivery truck driver following his graduation. Shortly after the outbreak of World War 2 he joined the U.S. Army. As a member of the the 714th Tank battalion of the Third Armored Division he was honored with General Patton riding his tank. Levi also drove heavy semi-trucks delivering ammunition, supplies and ferrying prisoners of war from the front lines to camps in the rear. Levi took part in the invasion of Normandy, Rhineland, Northern France and Central Europe Campaigns. For his valor Levi was awarded the European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon, four Bronze Service Stars, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War Two Victory Medal. Following his honorable discharge from the service he returned to Arkansas where he worked again driving truck. Levi relocated from Arkansas to the Northern Sierra mountain community of Crescent Mills to work in the timber industry in 1947. This move led to meeting the love of his life, the late Wanda J.McDonald whom he met at the Taylorsville Grange and not long after the two were joined in matrimony in Norman, Oklahoma on January 10th, 1948. To this union four children were born. Levi took it upon himself to further his education by studying electronics via correspondence courses. He opened Kemp's Television Repair in the mid 1950's and operated it until the late 1980's. He was instrumental in bringing television to the Indian Valley communities, servicing the repeaters until cable television was available to the local residents. Along with his late wife, Levi owned and operated Crescent Mills Produce from 1976-1989, providing fresh produce to residents, restaurants and local grocery stores throughout the valley. Levi has dedicated a great portion of his adult life to serving his fellow man. First, serving the valley as a Reserve Deputy for the Plumas County Sheriff's office from 1957-1978. During this period Levi was instrumental in starting the Indian Valley Explorer Scouts, Search and Rescue Program. This program was credited for saving numerous lives throughout Plumas County. Levi had been a longtime member of the Crescent Mills Fire Dept. when upon the death of its Fire Chief in 1986, Levi was appointed to fill his shoes. A job he took great pride in and continued to serve the needs of the community until his death. Levi was an avid hunter and especially looked forward to deer season when he could spend time in the hills with his sons. He also liked to spending time tending his garden. Levi is survived by his loving and caring family, his daughter and son-in-law; Karen and Keith Schmatz of Crescent Mills, CA, sons and daughter-in-laws; David and Trudy Kemp of Martin, GA, Bruce and Ladonna Kemp of Crescent Mills, CA and Coy and Ardie Kemp of Taylorsville, CA, brother; Joe Kemp of Crescent Mills, CA, grandchildren Todd, Brandon, Michelle, Kayla, Marcie and Jeremy and ten great grandchildren. He was proudly expecting his eleventh great grandchild in December of this year. Levi is preceded in death by his loving wife of forty six years Wanda in 1994, two brothers and two sisters. A celebration of Levi's life will take place 11:00AM Saturday, June 4th, 2005 at the Greenville Southern Baptist Church. Interment with military honors will take place at the graveside alongside his late wife in the Greenville District Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Fehrman Mortuary and Crematory of Greenville, CA.
