David Redpath Guinea of Bentleigh, City of Glen Eira County, VIC Australia was born circa 1872 in Tower Hill, Moyne Shire County to George Guinea and Elizabeth Ann (Redpath) Guinea. He had siblings Thomas Guinea, William Guinea, George Guinea, and John Guinea. He married Emily Jane Brown in 1900, and had children Clarence Redpath Guinea and Clarence Redpath Guinea. David Guinea died at age 82 years old in 1954 in Bentleigh, City of Glen Eira County.

In 1872, in the year that David Redpath Guinea was born, on May 22nd, President Ulysses S. Grant signed the Amnesty Act of 1872. The Act restored full civil rights to secessionists, including about 150,000 former slaves who had fought in the Confederate Army. About 500 former Confederate sympathizers were not allowed their full civil rights.

In 1884, when he was merely 12 years old, on December 6th, the Washington Monument was completed. Building began in 1848 but was stopped because of lack of funds and also due to the Civil War. It would be dedicated in 1885. At the time of its completion, it was the tallest structure in the world.
