  • Obituary

DSB was suffering from the debilitating effects of agent orange and agent pink. He had prostate cancer since the 1990's. He carried shrapnel in his legs, was shot down twice in Vietnam, and was a rifle expert and sniper. He was left in a tree in Cambodia for 2 1/2 days with a broken ankle, until he was rescued. He was involved in forays into other countries, including China. His DD-214 was blank because he was a covert operative. Consequently, he was screwed out of most of his disability. He spend the last couple of decades living out on the Mesa out skirts of Albuquerque. He built a windmill and kept water in a 50 gallon drum. He had built half of his house when the cancer struck in 1994 and he could never finish it. No kitchen and no bathroom. Eventually the windmill broke down for the last time, so he had no electricity, except for what he could jury rig from an old truck. He got some money for grading the roads when he could work, which was less and less. My son-in-law Anthony loved him and would visit. They travelled together and enjoyed eachother. Sam was a horse lover and a cowboy since he was little. He could play the guitar and sing, which he was planning to do on the streets the summer after he died. He liked to play the lottery for a few bucks and kept stats on the numbers he played, and he often won a few bucks. He is survived by his beautiful tall curly red haired daughter and his grandson, Ivan, who is a jiu jitsu champion in his weight class. Terry is a successful cancer trial coordinator and a total sweetheart.

Add Memories, Stories & Photos about David

He was a guitar playing, horse riding old cowboy. I don't know what he was like before Vietnam, because he suffered silently and drank his troubles away. Eight years after our divorce, he went up into the mountains by himself to get rid of his alcohol addiction. He forgot his cigarettes, so he broke himself of that too. What strength. He came out of the wilds 6 months later, a changed man. Bad timing for us.
