David Thoms was born to Robert (Doig) Thoms (1827 - 1884) and Ann Snedden (1829 - 1918). Both of his parents were born in Scotland. He had eight siblings: Robert, John, Sarah, Charles, William, James, Isabella, and Christine Thoms. There is a record of David Thom marrying Norah Daly in 1891 in Victoria Australia., There is also a record that David was arrested and fined in 1905 for his daughter, Nora, not attending school. He paid the fine. He was charged with the same offense for not sending his son, William Thom, to school.
